Some
fans have stipulated that the second-born royal cub is always treated worse
than the first-born and heir to the throne. I’ll be analyzing Taka’s and Kion’s
experiences to try and determine whether or not this is true. This post will
heavily reference the Six New Adventures
books and The Lion Guard (TLG) in addition to The Lion King (TLK).

Why Jasiri Is the Only Hyena Who Believes In the Circle Of Life
Jasiri is the hyena Kion met in “Never Judge A Hyena By Its Spots,” an episode of The Lion Guard (TLG). She has a deep
respect for the circle of life, unlike all of the members of Janja’s clan. She
sings to Kion that they “both know a higher call, like every creature big and
small / The circle of life should be what’s guiding us all.” Jasiri seems to
think as highly of the circle of life as any good Pridelander even though she
lives in the Outlands. The question then becomes: is she the only hyena near the Pridelands who
understands and respects the circle of life, and why? I’ll be discussing multiple
fan theories that try to answer this.

The Lion Guard Before Scar
We know that Scar was the leader of the
Guard before Kion but who was the leader before him? We saw in “Eye Of the Beholder”
that there were other Lion Guards (at least 5) before Scar’s Guard, as
evidenced by the paintings on the wall in the Guard’s Lair. This means there
were previous leaders and there had to have been some kind of system for
choosing them. I’ll be discussing some fan theories about who led the Guard
before Scar and how said leader was chosen. I’ll be referencing characters and
events from both The Lion Guard (TLG) and The Six New Adventures books.

How The Lion Guard Affects the Existing Canon
Some people consider The Lion Guard (TLG) and its lore to be part of an AU but if we incorporate it into
the existing canon, it helps explain and set up a lot of things that had
previously been unexplored or glossed-over. Scar, for example, seems to be left
out of a lot of the rest of the royal family’s activities, as evidenced not
only by his general separation from Mufasa and Simba in The Lion King (TLK) but
by the fact that Taka and Mufasa don’t spend much time together (and it would
seem that Taka spends even less time with Ahadi) in the Six New Adventures books. It’s not really clear why he uses the
hyenas to do his dirty work instead of just plotting against Mufasa directly. Nala’s
father, Serafina’s mate, is nowhere to be found in TLK. I’ll be discussing multiple fan theories based on TLG’s lore that fill in some of these
gaps.

Mheetu’s Parentage and Where He Went
Mheetu was a character from the
earlier stages of The Lion King (TLK), back when the movie was called King of the Jungle. He’s Nala’s little
brother and, though he never made it into the final version of the movie, some
people include him in the semi-canon sources. If we include him, it brings up
two questions: who is Mheetu’s father and what happened to Mheetu that kept him
from appearing in the movie? I’ll be trying to answer these with fan theories.
I’ll also be referencing The Lion Guard

Fluffy, Kopa, and Simba’s Pride
Who is Fluffy? Why aren’t Fluffy and
Kopa in Simba’s Pride (SP)? I’ll be exploring multiple fan theories
surrounding these questions.

How Sarabi Died
Sarabi, Simba’s mother and Mufasa’s
mate, is one of the most well-loved characters in the Lion King universe. The real-world reason that she doesn’t appear
in Simba’s Pride (SP) is that the woman who voiced her
died and, out of respect to her, they didn’t attempt to find a replacement.
However, within the Lion King universe
there are multiple fan theories about why she is no longer there by the time SP starts. Unfortunately, all of the realistic
explanations involve Sarabi dying. I’ll be discussing some of these theories.
